Interview with Joan S Peck

1) Can you tell us a little about the inspiration behind your entry for this contest?

I was inspired to enter the contest because not too recently I’d see a scratch ticket with roses on it. Since the story we submitted had to have seven roses in it, I was inspired to write about the ticket and the possible scenario that could take place. Money is a great temptation for many and in today’s society we can’t always trust new people who come into our lives, can we?

2) What made you decide to enter this contest?

I decided to enter the contest when a friend of mine forwarded the information to me and encouraged me to enter.

3) Who are some of your favourite authors and why?

There are so many authors whom I love: Lisa Scottoline, Ann Patchet, Rhys Bowen, Michael Connelly, J.D. Robb, Sandra Brown and so many others. I LOVE reading good mystery books, and these authors have some great ones to read.

4) What is your favourite book you read this year and why?

My favorite book I’ve read this year is from new author, Leslie Wolfe, and it’s the first book in her series—Las Vegas Girl. I admired her main character Detective Baxter, and I liked the other main characters as well, all of whom were well-rounded. I didn’t particularly like the story itself in that it’s earth-shattering to read about what is actually going on in the world today with all the sex trafficking, drugs, and destruction. Since my Death Card Series pulls in some aspects of human trafficking, Wolfe’s book made me realize I have to write more about human trafficking so that perhaps with more attention drawn to the subject, we can destroy much of it.

5) What is your best piece of advice for all the new independent authors out there?

Best advice for new indie authors – don’t give up. And don’t be afraid to re-edit if necessary. Much of writing is about marketing, marketing, and marketing. Do as much of that before you debut your book.
